To be honest, when I wrote the mail to Andreé I was sure I wouldn't get the chance to realize my idea about Dragonwars, because he was a very well established concept artist working on prestigious projects like Oblivion, but he actually was fine with the whole idea. At first it was just Dragon vs Soldiers I wanted to score, but then I found all these other amazing pictures in Andree's gallery and suddenly there was a big epic story about an old threat manifesting in my mind, awakening in the future, destroying the world and making brave men unite to fight it. So I went to work and decided to give the story two different sound characters. The dragon sound should be puristic, orchestral, while the sound of the humans should be more electronic, modern, so you have the powerful contrast of the ancient beast on the one site and modern mankind on the other.
It took me a long time to develop the theme for the dragon. In fact I nearly got desperate about it, but then the idea of visualizing the breath of the dragon came to me, how his chest was slowly moving up and down while he was sleeping, and there it finally was.
The futuristic theme for the Dragonhunters was inspired by the look of the soldiers in Dragon vs Soldiers. They reminded me of an old PlayStation game called G-Police. This game had a really cool soundtrack that had a lot of futuristic dance/trance music in it. I tried to create a similar feeling of a dark, engineered future with this electronic suite.
The track and the video were a lot of work, but they are my personal highlight on Imaginations.
